Make a Plan

It is important to have a plan in place, just in case disaster strikes. Know what types of disasters may strike your area, know how to communicate with family members, and also establish a meeting (fallback) point that is familiar and easy to find.

Establish Plan

Discuss these four questions with your family, friends, or household:

  1. How are alerts received?
  2. Where is my shelter?
  3. What is my evacuation route?
  4. How will everyone communicate?

Specific Needs for Household

Members of the household should discuss needs and responsibilities for how people can assist each other with communication, child, business, and pet care, or specific needs like the operation of medical equipment. When developing your plan remember:

  • ages of the members of your household.
  • responsibilities
  • dietary needs
  • medical needs and disabilities
  • Language, religious, and cultural considerations
  • Pets and service animals
  • Households with children
